Zane liked it. I was indifferent. But Avi is a good author and speaks to children.

I am loving this book! I love the pauses along the way, the lapses into daydreaming that the author as well as the main character fall into. There's a pacing here, in which we take our time to learn a lesson, to absorb it so that it can be applied in times of strife. You cannot make a last stand without some conviction and sometimes to achieve conviction, you need time to feel the rightness of your actions.

I love it when a book falls into my life at just the right time. I had really lost myself for a while there and had an experience that reminded me that I wasn't loving myself. This book is an excellent guide to remembering how.

I'm a mother of a 5 year old and this book makes to double check both ways anytime before I cross the street. It's the "this is what happens to motherless children" warning book.

RE: being passionate: "Unfortunately, the public generally has the impression that librarians are not so interested in carrying the banner as in getting out of the snow and ice to find a warm place. I believe this is because we are more technicians than professionals...We stress skills and the performance of them rather than our relationship to the individuals these skills are suppose to help."

great read just taking my time, one chapter a night. I enjoy the stories of the chapters- very entertaining and hopefully representative of Indian life, b/c if so, very illuminating. I may want to buy a copy for the collection.
