Pretty heavy subject matter and emotional situations. Hockey forms the foundation of the lives (some more some less) of the characters. But the author does a good job of weaving the various plot elements, while developing the characters unique aspects. Only sometimes does he dwell too much into the hockey games, which gets a bit tedious at times. Just wish I had more free reading time to blast through to the end!

Churning my way through, as I typically do w/ Michener novels. Some of the “modern” chapters get a bit tedious w/ the details of the bullfights and the associated mechanics of matador and bull. But the various memorable characters and their development w/ side stories are holding my interest. I find myself enjoying more the historical interludes that exposes the deeper history of Mexico, its culture and people.

The story is really cranking up in intensity and intrigue. It’s getting into full blown “page turner” and “can’t put it down” mode. I’m finding myself deeply anticipating when I can pick it up again!!

So far I am really enjoying the two parallel storylines, past and modern eras. Eager to see how the threads intertwine as the book progresses! It's easy to pick the common elements that should eventually tie everything together.

It’s definitely got me hooked early. It’s a very different and unique scenario, with some vivid characters. I’m already eager to push ahead, to see how this story develops!
