Writing is very stiff and the characters feel cookie cutter. Idk if I’m going to make it to 400 pages.

About 100 pages in and I am a little uncertain how to feel about the characters thus far. I would’ve liked more character building. Aisling did not strike me as the very forward and flirty type prior to what she did at the party and Kael is lukewarm thus far.

Excessive and repetitive use of terms such as “the male this” and “the male that”. Might be a DNF, not understanding the gravity driving Aisling.

If Apollo could have been so quickly detained why wasn’t he found and put under lock and key faster for Evangeline’s safety earlier in the story?

Also these stones are total cop-outs for what should be better story telling. Evangeline cheating on Apollo because of the effects of a stone reeks of “I did it because the alcohol made me do it.”

Where is the reason for all the hype and dazzle?

Well. As far as romantic scenes go this wasn’t the worst…

“But Jacks’s fingers were faster. They plunged down her shirt and made her gasp as he pulled out the glowing gold rock.” P. 281

*sighs in exasperation* YA and its obsession with love triangles.

The execution of the worldbuilding and writing for this story is so wonky. I keep thinking Candyland with vampires and the romance isn’t appealing to me. I’m still sure LaLa is malicious (don’t trust men or women with a string of romantic tragedy following behind them) and Evangeline has two brain cells fighting for second place.

LaLa is behind everything, that is my current theory.

Carving words into your skin is a little much. I’ve clearly underestimated Evangeline’s pain tolerance. 😑

Feeling that some parts are being rushed and not caring for it.

Really questioning if I should DNF this, the main protagonist is REALLY stupid.

Hopefully this book changes trajectory soon, the protagonist is difficult to like.
