I generally enjoy narrative nonfiction and have infact read a few brilliant engaging Russian and WW2 spy novels in the last few years that I just couldn't put down and afterwards spent hours researching the aforementioned real life characters and their legacies.... this book is not one of those! This had way too much technical jargon, along with NSA/ CIA verbage, memos and abbreviations that I just couldn't care less

Never have I ever borrowed a book from the library and then midway through felt guilty for not having paid for it!! The thousands of hrs of quiet observation and research into her natural backyard habitat and it's inhabitants that took Margaret Renkl ( and her illustrator brother) to produce this beautiful poetic essay series, not only deserves to be read with patience & care, but to be praised & shared as well!

Never have I ever, borrowed a book from the library and halfway through reading it felt like I was cheating the author for not having paid for the privilege of reading their words!! Well that was until 'the comfort of crows'!!

This is the kind of book that needs to be owned (at full price mind you) to properly thank, both the author and the illustrator ( her brother), for their thousands of hours of dedication.
