Every YA-adjacent fantasy novel is like “He was crafty, cunning, sharp-tongued, the most intimidating fighter/assassin/wizard in the realm, feared by even the highest ranked politicians. He is 18 years old.” Y’all know you can have protagonists be over 20, right? Sorry but I’ll be imagining every one of these characters as 30+ with the amount of life experience they’re supposed to have. You cannot stop me.

I thought for sure they were going to save that dark secret for a few books in the future, but I don’t think I’ll read more of this series so maybe it’s for the best that the author ripped off that bandage so quickly.

The part of my brain that is tuned to reading mysteries and thrillers made it hard for me to not expect a “gotcha” moment for about the first 50% of this book, but now I’m fully onboard with the central friendship and I’m not scared (please don’t say sike now, mr. Weir)

This MC is hilarious and I adore the narrator. I understand why people suggested the audiobook.
