This just keeps getting better and better

The way I could read this in 1-2 sittings if I didn’t have other responsibilities…

kicking my feet and screaming (internally… mostly) because this is so fun to read. I love heists.

The story so far:
Adult: “kids, please don’t stray far from home/town, there are literal child-eating monsters everywhere.”
Kids: “of course not, we aren’t stupid!”
Kids: *venture off anyway and end up in dangerous situations*

Can already tell this is going to be painful but in a good way for me personally.

Every YA-adjacent fantasy novel is like “He was crafty, cunning, sharp-tongued, the most intimidating fighter/assassin/wizard in the realm, feared by even the highest ranked politicians. He is 18 years old.” Y’all know you can have protagonists be over 20, right? Sorry but I’ll be imagining every one of these characters as 30+ with the amount of life experience they’re supposed to have. You cannot stop me.

“Hey Siri, please play the first two lines of 1980s Horror Film II by Wallows”

I thought for sure they were going to save that dark secret for a few books in the future, but I don’t think I’ll read more of this series so maybe it’s for the best that the author ripped off that bandage so quickly.

Finally got interesting! But still feels a bit derivative.

I’m reading this for Amanda, Kayla, and Finn. Loving it so far.

Man overthinks the situation and decides not communicating is the right call. Man gets people hurt and almost dies. Man is not bright.

The part of my brain that is tuned to reading mysteries and thrillers made it hard for me to not expect a “gotcha” moment for about the first 50% of this book, but now I’m fully onboard with the central friendship and I’m not scared (please don’t say sike now, mr. Weir)

This MC is hilarious and I adore the narrator. I understand why people suggested the audiobook.
