This story was a slow cook for me that turned out to be a spiritually savory read in the long run. Unfamiliar Arabic names were my initial struggle to enjoy it at the start. Despite hitting a brief rut toward the middle (a few too many reiterations), I was mesmerized, and highly recommend A.D. 33 to anyone who enjoys a stimulating historical fiction about Jesus' time. It is a thought- provoking and edifying read.

Danette is finished with Firekeeper’s Daughter (Firekeeper's Daughter, #1)
I think Firekeeper's Daughter is an interesting look into Native American issues alongside a touching story of family loyalty and communtiy trust; some of which overlaps with modern family complexities. I found the author's talent for cross-sensory descriptions stimulating and spiritual counsel wise. It brought feelings of admiration and empathy toward the protagonist.

This book is my all-time favorite read!! It has left me with a satisfied smile and memorable passages. The Way that Costain writes is most compatible with my way of reading....it fits comfortably. The many characters are interesting and pertinent to the plot from beginning to end. I won't soon forget this solidly epic historical fiction. Relatable to modern political standoffs and profound.

Just past half way and I am as smitten with the story as Frank Ellery is with Gabrielle. There is so much depth and dynamics in this story. The contrasts and the danger and the writer's skill make reading this feel as smooth as fine vintage wine and rich chocolate. I wish I could write like this. Family dynamics and elusive love and reality of war and political imbalances. Good book!

This historical fiction is my go-to comfort zone reading preference. I was hooked early with the French royal refugee Gabrielle finding her entourage's way through a London fog to safe shelter by holding Frances Ellery's coattails. Frances is a disabled patriotic news publisher whose family dynamics are intriguing. I feel as though I'm learning history in a luscious manner and yearn to know whether Frances succeeds.

Interesting pschological plot which evolves slowly from an immediately understood conflict and potential threat; suspensefully becoming multiple threats. Three main characters are 'followed' by the reader throught a narrow scope of relationships in a small, quiet river town. The writing flows as the story unfolds. This far in, I am conflicted about who is hunting who? I WANT to figure it out before the end reveals...

Enjoying this murder intrigue; its character development, and heroine's ability to see around flaws in male cohorts with hope of cultivating more substance in them--albeit utilitarian in scope. The protagonist is uniquely independent for her era; weirdly shrewd but also naive. This Romance genre is not preferred but was a free, nice departure from norm. Contrasted sexual electricity keeps it edgy-rape or first love.
