Realizing that Yanagihara does such a good job of connecting descriptions of settings to the characters rather than it just giving you an idea of where they are (like one unchanged room, pg 219) and that she adds such tiny details to characters lives that it makes them seem so much more real (like referring to a play from the character’s college experience to describe how they feel now, pg 217)

Okay maybe I should say that they don’t necessarily feel like unique characters (except maybe Adam more so does for his biology stuff) because they are built on every cliche and classic man thing that’s been said to a woman

I feel like you can really tell this author is a woman and part of it is bc I think Adam’s and Ken’s dialog is built from things men have said rather than maybe how they actually think and the filler to have a thought process to explain all the classic men things they’re saying is built from public perception of how they think that’s often talked about online - not that it’s bad, but odd

The highlights:
“I wasn’t a puzzle. I was just a girl.”

“I’d bet money that you won’t even last a week.” Missed opportunity for her response to be “how about two hundred fifty thousand dollars then?” Since that is of course now all of his inheritance

The continuation of using speed as a metaphor and being with Jameson in the car at 150 mph but walking by Grayson felt like 200 mph… okayyyyy

Woah woah woah crazy moment - “Grayson. My body recognized him before my mind did.”

Jaw. Drop. Girl, you just met them.

Read to this point last night and I can already say my goodness! if she does not end up with Grayson and rather with Jameson I’ll be shocked - this is my hunch!!! I’m sticking to it!!! I also thought it was funny how quick they were to say that he was 19 lol - she’s still a MINOR even if that’s not a cray age gap

But I also know that this is a series so maybe that isn’t resolved here

Sorry to any fans but I just started this today and it’s already getting on my nerves. Sorry! I cannot get over how “perfect” the characters are but maybe it’s my fault from reading several books where they’re not “perfect.” Perfect as in “Iwantedtostaylongeratthecharityandtheowner basicallythrewmeoutbcI’vebeenthereforso

At this point, this book and the second book feel like the same thing (but I mean obviously they’re different). I kind of like that it’s becoming more about the war but I also can hardly remember anything that else that happens, it’s like nothing is happening but also a lot is happening. Anyways….

Feeling a little conflicted about Sarah j. Maas’ writing because I enjoy the plots to the books and the political side to things but I think the writing overall is maybe not my fav. I think I would like if some of the characters were more dynamic (and I think the most dynamic/complicated/fleshed out is Rhys) and just if the writing was a little better in certain sections tbh 🫢🫣

Currently getting really annoyed with Feyre, probably the most annoying character I’ve read since there’s not necessarily a reason for all of her attitude as the protagonist and often has illogical points or contradicts herself
