I'm enjoying the world-building here immensely! Especially the lore and slang terms (creetrock trails, old number roads, Wane the Batman)... this book is an absolute delight to read.

Monroe makes some comment like, "If we had the imagination and writing talent of Thomas Harris, and an actor like Anthony Hopkins, any one of us could create a Hannibal Lecter!" ...um, no shit? But you don't. The way she denigrates someone else's skill and talent really grated. This book as big cop energy.

This book has a lot of Harry Potter references, like, to a distracting degree. I kind of thought we'd agreed as a society not to promote that anymore? I mean you can say you loved magic without propping up the Queen TERF.

If you're going to use another character complaining about the heroine to indicate he's a villain, it helps if the heroine isn't a spoiled, useless brat...

I am really sick of this book sneering at traditionally feminine things--if you don't want to knit or wear dresses, fine, but don't be a dick about things other people enjoy. But "How can I help? Lol oopsie burned breakfast!" is a new low. SHE PUT HERSELF IN THAT SITUATION.

I think this book forgot to have magic... after a very dull info-dump heavy intro about magic.

I really hope Inez is set up for character development because right now I abhor her. I am so tired of pseudo-feminism that looks down on "feminine arts" because it's somehow wrong to knit and sew (things I love doing). She meets at English boy (probably love interest) and starts spouting off about all the damage his people have done--given that her father's people are from Spain, hypocritical af.

How far do I have to read before I can say I gave it a fair shot? This is just terrible in literally every way. Someone take fantasy away from romance writers, they're ruining a perfectly good genre...

Can I be Team "Zahru Stays Single"? Both boys are more trouble than they're worth! The drama, though, so delightful

Not even 10% of the way into the book and I'm already frustrated at Jet's overly honest manner and half-wanting Zahru to trust Kasta despite knowing SHE SHOULD NOT TRUST KASTA. Continuing Natalie Mae's streak of twisting me up every time!

Literally so boring it's almost impressive

I'm reading this because the movie looks good and I want to read it first, and you know what, I am having so much fun!
