Howard Webster is on page 390 of 520 of The Everlasting Man: A Guide to G.K. Chesterton’s Masterpiece
My third reading now. The first time 20 years ago I gave up. 10 years ago I skimmed and scanned and understood 20-30%.

I am now reading on a weekly basis for the Chesterton society book club. The online telecasts can be slow going but having people Smarter than me talking about it is helping.

Really outstanding. Wilson has marvelously captured a lot of the best of Flannery and stayed true. I feel five stars coming

Third time reading it. The commentary by Dale Alquist is very helpful. With earlier editions I was researching G. Ks marvelous obscurities almost as much as I was reading. Despite being a well read autodidact.

Highly recommended for new or old fans, or the curious.

I’m pretty well read in Flannery or I don’t think I would like this as much as I do. The deeper I go my already deep respect for her grows. Wilson has done her homework.

In my teens a severe head injury set me on course that felt much like Flannery felt at 25.
I have an unfinished short story from then.
This book gives me new views on how I have finished / rewritten it in my adult life. Thank you Jessica

Really going deep here. Thought knew a bit about Paul but there’s so much more. Wright keeps up an incredibly even pace of thoroughness each paragraph into each chapter. Just what I need to get more from a coming second reading of Surprised by Hope.

So excellent! I’m reading slowly and really savoring it and it will not end up on my pile of unfinished books! So often my find a excellent paragraph and have to stop and come back later and re-read that paragraph before continuing.

I guess I’m among the Last of the Romantics. I love these and haven’t finished yet because I keep re-reading favorites, either the whole sonnet or some choice lines. I admit I read the Brownings in high school and denied them a place in my so limited pantheon.

I’m astonished at all the mere 4 stars. Y’all must be Shakespeare people, whom I do not at all hold in low esteem.

I found it very good, but I have stopped reading. At 76 years old and under cancer treatment, I no longer have the patience for his very wonderful, florid style that I once had.

I would be very grateful if my patience returned but meanwhile, I have a huge pile of unread books that I do find easier.
