Elise R is on page 60 of 192 of The Politics of Reality: Essays in Feminist Theory
The author spent close to 30 pages establishing that the oppression of women and nonwhite races is distinct from suffering (the example she used was a man breaking his leg skiing).

I don’t know why I expected to learn new information from a book on feminism written in the 70’s but I am disappointed so far.

Elise R is on page 70 of 1007 of The Shadow Rising (The Wheel of Time, #4)
I think I want to finish this series more because I’m curious about why these books have the reputation they have than because I actually care about these characters. At first the bits were cute and fun but now they just feel tired. Fingers crossed it gets better.

One of the most common pieces of writing advice is “show, don’t tell” and McCurdy does this so. incredibly. well.

a little confused about why this is labeled fantasy when it’s clearly historical fiction with some supernatural elements but otherwise enjoying the journey

Elise R is on page 131 of 279 of Pride and Prejudice
another comforting reread

I’m struck by this bit on page 131: “You shall not defend her, though it is Charlotte. You shall not, for the sake of one individual, change the meaning of principle and integrity, nor endeavor to persuade yourself or me that selfishness is prudence, and insensibility of danger, security for happiness.”

The first time I read this book, I was in 8th grade. In the 13 years since, there has not been a single week where I haven’t thought about The Disreputable History.

I’d forgotten how great Crowley, the “angel who did not do much Fall as Saunter vaguely downwards” and the other characters are

I picked this up in a bookstore in Split, thinking it was either going to be awesome or awesomely bad. What I didn’t expect was mediocrity, which is what I’m getting.

Why do these modern retellings of Greek stories never have Penelope do anything other than narrate Odysseus’ story??? Very very bored with “man he’s still not home yet, whatever shall I do” as Penelope’s entire character

I generally have a strict policy of keeping my school reading away from my fun reading for the sake of my own sanity, but we only read one of these plays for class so I'm making an exception here. Very curious to find out if the other two plays are as emotionally devastating as Mojada
