I carry this on my Nook . Another slow read. This is a gift to our collective wellbeing. With wisdom from experience and exercises to help, it moves me past simply reading to slow breathing and attention, rereading some, sitting in meditative quiet some... I may never finish it... and each reading portion is its own gift.

This is a dipper.... that is, I pick it up from time to time. The author and I are in very different places in many ways, yet I find his observations illuminating -- even if I have a different analysis.

Joan Broadfield is on page 30 of 140 of Decolonizing Evangelicalism: An 11:59 p.m. Conversation
The reading goes quickly, but other demands on reading emerge. This is so important for us all, particularly if we think that all evangelicals are fundamentalist and demanding of the same thoughts. I will get back to this soon, and hope others will start it.

This is an interesting, but not actively compelling, book. I'm getting through it slowly due to active work on antiracism in my community. It is VERY helpful to see his take on how systems work, even tho his examples are far removed from my life.

Reading it is on pause right now.

The concept of antiracist is not new. My files show me my own work on this from the 1980s. What is new is the construct of its discipline, with deeper digging into what it means to act to build equity - the focus of antiracism.

Biggest AHA was at the beginning : acts are either racist or antiracist - no in between. Racism, more complex than 'hate', centers assumptions of whiteness and shows itself in actions.

This is fascinating... I'm aware this is an independently thinking philosopher, and from a very different mindset than anything I've read... AND the idea of antifragile, not resiliance, as a means to move forward I do find compelling. Perhaps it is also in recognizing where my family had to pivot on a dime many times... now I am seeing the value of what happens in the moment. So onward I read!!

Really loving this. Her process for determining her ministry, for living into it and her descriptions of how things unfold for her... nicely done. There are some in this book of essays I'd use in a class for those wanting to learn more about Quakers (religious society of Friends).

Joan Broadfield is reading Storytelling: Art and Technique
This is a masterful review of storytelling: brief excellent history and process. It includes the values of this practice for children and adults. Wish it were NOT o.p.
