Endings are brutal and some dated ideas but of its time is interesting written in mid 1970's. Twenty years later independence is achieved. Historical fiction is exciting.

Maureen Armstrong is starting Nausea
Terrific must read surreal fiction is riveting to last pages. Action includes reader in profound way illustrating fear, and compassion. Takes place in France after WWII and includes notes from WWI. Romance and lust play a part for main character, a novelist doing historical research in countryside library, and finally leaves for Paris. His writing is a success and lives well.
