This comic is teaaaaa. It reminds me of I saw the TV glow in using childhood horror as a lens to speak on coming of age. Also love the incorporation of Margaret Thatcher banning "video nasties" as a plotline, really adds alot. Love a little historical fiction bit in horror

Trying my best to sit and understand this book. Read the first few vignettes repeatedly over the course of the first few days. Hell, even searched up half of the words and things being mentioned or described. This book is losing me but keeps pulling me in by trying to figure out wtf it's trying to say. I don't get it but I want to😭

Stopped reading at page 24 but the second story is good. Similar writing style, story also in Detroit and about water but in a different way. Not sure if it's in the same "world" because as I've read so far, water has to be rationed and people are being punished for "political incompetence". Interesting

The poems are nice but the short stories so far (I only read the river) are REALLY good. A nice blend of Ishmael Reed and Nadie Smith in the way the story is written. Fresh use of language honestly

He's talking about being in a movie short to the reader and I'm wondering if he's lying to the reader or that's fact. Also his ramblings on women while also praising Jane is..... interesting to say the least. They're kind of a bore to get through. Idk I'm just rambling myself, trying to get back into the swing of these book updates lol

Jack interviewed Monica and some interesting things were revealed. Half of the privileges Angel got from her job at Sea Blue didn't transfer to Monica. Yeah either David or Dalton was hella into Angel bc that comes off as weird. Also why does Jack keep letting The Connelly's do nice things for him? Him staying with the Connelly's while trying to write a report on Angel is a conflict of interest imo.

Jack is now doing his reporter thing and I'm genuinely enjoying it, wish he got more out of the interview w/ David in chapter 16, that chapter felt like filler. 17 tho>>>>the way the family is described is gorgeous. Italian Catholics who didn't truly know their daughter but want to believe in their heart they did, can't say anything else about her beyond "she was nice and beautiful". Sad scene if I'm being honest.

Wow, again still upset Angel is dead. Like sure, kill off an interesting character to pick up the steam in a book, but hey the book IS picking up steam. Conflict of interest with Jack being both a reporter and somehow rubbing shoulders with the richest whites of Maine already caught in a controversy who now going to be submerged in a larger tide of it. I'm living and hella interested in the book now...

I didn't find lifeless or boring :((((((((((((. Damn now I gotta read chapter 13 with this sad news like- UGHHH WHY CANT WE HAVE NICE THINGS?!

Finally caught up to that chapter I liked before I took that long ass break from the books. I'm still not here for Jack's misogynistic way of "describing" the female characters but hey I also am here for rich white people tea lmao. And these run on sentences are getting annoying, stop using "and" so much DAMN. I really like Angel as a character even though I knew they gonna try to kill her off sigh

On Chapter 6, slowly gaining back to the chapter I left off but forgot to track and I have to say, paying more attention during this chapter I am highly invested. 1) Jack, your a dumbass to lurk around the house ITS PRIVATE PROPERTY, I'm genuinely suprised David was so welcoming to you. And 2) love how we were introduced to the other characters, especially Angel. This book is slowly starting to pick up for me

I made it to page 40 but forget to track it but also just forgot the plot in general so here goes nothing.
My personal issues is the constant use of "ands" in sentences, also the similes used are so...weird.

"...she looked nervous, like a freshman at the senior prom, unsure she'd worn the wrong dress. She hadn't. In another incarnation she carried word on her back."

Like huh?????.

I'm not sure if this has a Nancy Drew-type continuity to the series or each new book starts where the last book left off so not sure if that's why I feel confused(just decided to read a random book in the series and picked this one). Not really that impressed with the two characters or how the story quickly sets up and the use of similes either are weak or corny. Idk maybe the next chapters will hit better
