Off to a great start! There’s already a lot of intrigue and question of who knows what as countries go to war.

AAAAA (positive)

I actually started this book awhile ago, though I’m only getting around to really reading it now. So far, I’m excited to see Nina again, though I haven’t read the Shadow and Bone series so this is my first time really meeting Zoya and Nikolai. I just started chapter four and I have to say the book does an excellent job at introducing all three of them, really emphasizing them and what their stories are.

Semester ends very soon, so I intend to start reading as much as possible for the summer :)

LOL what is HAPPENING… Part of me wants to be convinced Tomie was human when the book started but there’s really nothing to prove it other than how young she was then,,, I’m noticing as the book progresses she hasn’t even pretended to be a student in awhile because she’s always looked so mature.

… I wonder what happened to the clump of meat that got thrown away…

This really is a horror book,,,

I haven’t even begun yet and after reading two I have a sneaking suspicion that I know why the title is named that. I’m really concerned for Frey’s well-being in this book and I haven’t even opened it yet.

I was wrong and I’m not surprised it’s genuinely my bad for assuming Scott would be nice to Frey for once. I jest, but seriously this was the worse of the two options and I’m distraught.

When Rafia revealed that their brother was still alive, just missing, I wasn’t sure if he would be the assassin from the first book that Frey killed, or said assassin’s lupine boyfriend.

After this last chapter, I’m convinced I know which it is.

Got to see Boss X again, but at what cost. The story is doing an excellent job at empathetically describing the feelings after a tragedy. When I realized that Frey’s father intended to conquer the city using peace rather than war, actual chills went down my spine. Same as for when Esse revealed that her brother died right in front of her in the earthquake, and she had to ignore the loss to help others. Intense.

So far so good, I’ve grown incredibly invested in Boss X specifically, I love how supportive he is of Frey’s choices and violence. I don’t expect to see him for awhile, and I’m so worried about what might happen when Frey has to tell the truth about what she did to his lover, but I’m having fun for now anyways.

I feel less attached to Col as a person in this book, but it’s because he’s usually right.
