Donna is on page 64 of 325 of The Elegance of the Hedgehog
There's a little girl wearing big boots on the cover of my edition. So far, I think that's a fair description of the book.

Dreaming along & Patti discovers Haruki Murakami, speaks more of Bulgakov & Bolano. This woman just stole my heart!

I've read the first short story & skipped to later in the book. Coming into it on tiptoes because I wanted something else to win the National Book Award, but now, after George Orwell Was A Friend of Mine, I'm applauding.

Donna is on page 40 of 296 of The Fuck-Up
A friend found this in a free box & was attracted by the title. He got hooked & brought it over when he finished, saying he thought it a was really good read. Thus-far, I'm not relating, but not giving up yet either. It's very well written which keeps me turning pages.

If you're eyes aren't already open as to why people protest when the circus comes to town, you will now join the protest with a new set of eye opening reasons.

Everything Krakauer writes is thoughtful, precise & well written, even if you have to bite a bullet to read it.

Donna is 84% done with We Are Water
So far, with the exception of Mr. Algnello, I don't like anybody. Hope that is supposed to add to the tone, consisting of idle, rich & self absorbed artists.

Donna is starting Rule of the Bone
Haven't read this in 20 years, but found it in the basement today & am starting it now. Once adored Russell Banks & then fell over myself to see him once & found him extremely boring, sort of ruined it for me. Hope this old novel renews the old feelings.

I keep remembering some of the scenes in little flashbacks that make me relive this well crafted, entertaining novel.

Donna is starting Wind/Pinball: Two Novels
Follower for years. My near favorite, Tony Takitani is a tiny blip on the screen of his canon. Wild Sheep Chase stands out & represents his hook, the one that pulls in fans who stand by his works, & run to the nearest bookstore at every new publication. Winding the clock backwards, we now get to the source that started building the foundation, a prequel complete with biographical introduction. Priceless!

The lump in my throat grows. You want to reach inside the pages to pull him out as it spirals downwards, like cultural quicksand.
