Really enjoying this story so far. Fantasy is not my genre at all, but the world-building is so lovely and I’m gripped to know where the story will head next

This book has been a letdown so far. Despite its consistent rankin as one of the best books of the 21st century, the characters feel flat, and their dialogue isn’t realistic. The narrator generalizes the group of students, which feels fitting given the weak characterisation. The plot is fine, but it moves painfully slowly. Unless it picks up, I can't see this being more than a 3-star read :-(
