So much to say about the unique magic system, the brilliant portrayal of colonialism and oppression justified by religious institutions, and the gripping characters (especially this part)…but all I’ll say right now is that I’m a sucker for a ginger man.

One of my favorite reads this year. I love that both Nadia and Marco are inherently lovable/capable of love but recognize a wretchedness inside of them that I think all people have but refuse to acknowledge. And likewise how the core challenge, albeit seemingly different for their respective situations, is to not let tj knowledge of this wretchedness rule their choices. Stellar read and so relatable <3
