I’m sorry what are these twists! I love them but why has it taken 400 pages to get to them 😂

I don’t know if it’s Hafsah’s writing style or not but as much as I’m enjoying this read, it feels very slow and poetic. Like every line has a deeper meaning and something that I should be picking up on but am missing, which is both enthralling and pushing me out of the story. But I am loving the unraveling of the prince as the journey goes on.

Sometimes it feels like Hendrix is using the time period this is written to convey his thoughts and feelings towards women, making them seem less than and simple house wives and dulling them down. It just feels so much like a cover that he’s using to show his own feelings and it’s so uncomfortable.

Some of the ways Hendrix describes his female characters makes me queasy, like he can’t decide if he wants them to feel human or not and it just ends up uncomfortable.
