I love the emphasis on the effects of exploration and knowledge; how it broadens Tress' horizons. She wasn't special in some magical or even mundane way, she was just a clever girl that never had a reason to be clever before.

This book has been surprising me with its character. I did not imagine I would be so drawn in.

The writing is starting to wear on me again as we speed towards the climax. I've come to enjoy the characters but the jokes really kill it for me. As my first Joe Abercrombie book, it does not fill me with confidence for his others. Some of his chapter cliffhangers or twists feel a little insulting in their simplicity and set up. Tropes are a thing for a reason but at least dress it up or don't repeat the same thing.

So far, this story has been an interesting glimpse into the life of these housewives. Of course, it focuses on them dealing with their kids and inattentive husbands but it also reflects on camaraderie, safety, and what it means to get older (from the inside and the outside)

I agree with the criticisms that this book is very predictable and the humor is the worst of the MCU quip era, yet strangely, I've grown used to it. I think I powered through my distaste for the style to genuinely enjoying these characters. The humor is very one note and the plot hasn't been particular enthralling but I'm enjoying it. Odd.
