Trying to power through the insufferable writing. I guess this is what happens when almost everyone in your bookclub's of a certain sociopolitical persuasion. For a book about love, there's a lot of complaining

I'm still not sure what this book is trying to achieve. Unless you already agree with Packer's Calvinist presuppositions, you'll be struggling to understand why you ought to agree with him in his reasoning.

There's the usual shenanigans, but too much side plot. I'm not feeling the chemistry between Lucy and Panda either ... this is NOT a good sign.

Also, I'm not feeling the racial justice bit from Brie (an insufferable mid-class lady with a saviour complex). It's out of place, and not dealt with like how SEP normally does.

Is this....really the end of SEP's books? I don't recall liking anything recent from her...
