i can't read this at work.. any discussion of yuri tropes inevitably leads me to consider how they show up in utena, and then i start crying in public..

this book kinda sucks. plenty of unnecessary information but not enough of the important stuff, constantly weak arguments that rely on evocative description without any sort of connection to the thesis. writing style relies on using fancy words and unhelpful affects (footnotes, [sic] every other quote) to assume academic posture without being thorough or nuanced at all.
