returning to this after a long long time to escape the terrors of my russian music ma dissertation. just wanted a stress free afternoon after hitting something of a stress breaking point, so i get a coffee and take my book out with me! i open where i left some time ago and oh, the first sentence i read is about a russian oligarch wanking on a painting. i might cry

I’ve bashed Scriabin for his insanity for many years (and will continue to do so) but reading some Ivanov and the like does unfortunately explain (only slightly!) how one got to be like that. Even just skimming these essays is a headache so if one were to sit down and properly engage with them at the time they were written, it could warp the mind for sure.
