Not the priest literally being like “Kim there are people dying”

No wonder there isn’t an English word for “ennui” it’s so uniquely French

Oh man. The description of finding out a life-changing secret like that and the sickening dread you’re flooded with. Oh, I feel like I’m sharing in the panic attack too.

It’s funny to read the essay where the author conflates being a Tyler the Creator fan with being homophobic. The book has aged pretty well, but will always stand as a time capsule of 2014 ~thinkpiece~ culture

Okay…so I’m invested and my interest is piqued, but I’m worried about it being too much of an anthology and there not being a thru line enough to get me so stoked on this. I have so much more to go tho

This really predicted the future of “Hi! Thanks so much for reaching out. I’m actually at capacity/ helping someone else who’s in crisis / dealing with some personal stuff right now, and I don’t think I can hold appropriate space for you” in western spheres

I’m regretting not reading this book when I was given it for Christmas in 2015, simply because pre-Trump liberal humor doesn’t sit the same anymore

Hannah is on page 20 of 423 of The Idiot
Sometimes it’s difficult to read about college and not get like, depressed & forlorn, especially when so many college stories are set in Boston. To convince myself that I didn’t take advantage of the time enough, even though I worked myself to the absolute bone. Oh well. At least I’m fond & romantic of/for that time. No amount of depression can make me think too negatively about that time.

I’m only on chapter 3, and I’m realizing this is probably the last book my dad has read. It feels like his whole personality was wrapped up in this book when I was little.

Okay I accidentally bought the audiobook, and the narrator sounds like Sam the Eagle. I know Gottlieb is the villain of 20th century American history but also #GoBadgers

While the language is elevated and the names of people and organizations are difficult to keep straight— knowing that it doesn’t include the violence currently happening that makes me all that more nauseous reading along. Getting to the Oslo agreements between Tunis PLO and Israel makes me that much sicker.
