Pleasantly surprised— Economic demography that is rigorous in its presentation of phenomena to demonstrate the relationship of fertility to many other qualities of society I never thought to connect.
Picked this up expecting to put it down for being pseudo-science spouted with rhetoric but not the case here.

“ The very life of adjust people, Thomas explains, is its definitive, articulation of properly formed, intellect, and wheels, it’s living of the common good. The tranquility of order could not possibly be more definitive law because it is reason specified in actual operation.”

Just had to add thoughts on this book along the way. This book is like Great Gatsby in it’s apathetic tone. But the ennui has a purpose in characterizing the narrative, which constantly fluctuates between that droll boredom and terrifying mystery of the main characters’ wandering. I’m captured fully!

“It was like certain dinners I remember from the war. There was much wine, an ignored tension, and a feeling of things coming that you could not prevent happening. Under the wine I lost the disgusted feeling and was happy. It seemed they were all such nice people.” … I think this describes a lot of the book hahaha! Existential dread in the Lost Generation quelled with alcohol and adventure.
