signs my tastes have changed a lot over the years: instead of being horrified at the male love interest wanting to hold a knife to the MC's throat, my immediate reaction was, "AND THEN WHAT? 👀" (this is also a testament to how good the writing is.)

that being said: this book is pretty (intentionally) fucked up so far. but i can't lie, i'm obsessed with the atmosphere.

ello ello. just came on here after a long hiatus to say that JK Rowling is a bigoted piece of shit and her obsession with trans women is getting creepy at this point. get a therapist, Joanne. any mutuals of mine who are reading this book gets unfriended immediately. 💖

but anyways, hope everyone is safe and doing well!

That’s what happens when you’re upsettingly pretty. My libido gets stupid—correction, stupider (because let’s face it, on a normal day my libido is still a bimbo)."

did i ghostwrite this book

in a much different context, this would sound hot.

henlo. i haven't sat down and read a book in a long time and that makes me sad. i can't remember the last time i've really, truly enjoyed something that caught my attention. so to fix that, i'm going to attempt to read every book on my tbr list, in order (excluding ones that haven't been released yet). Here's hoping i stick to this commitment. 👍🏻

Just a pro-tip: if you're over the age of 14 and use the term "SJW" unironically, my immediate assumption is that you're kind of an idiot. Don't expect to be taken seriously in political discourse (or any type of discourse) if you throw dumb buzzwords around. and yes, i've seen this on Goodreads. it's annoying and juvenile. 🙄

Never got to mentioning this yesterday. I live in Nevada (Reno to be exact), and I have a good friend who lives in Vegas (thankfully she's in Cali at the moment). It's terrifying getting news of a massacre so close to home. My best friend knew somebody who was there (they're okay). I don't know what to say except I'm heartbroken and scared. I don't feel safe here.

I know everyone loves to shit on John Green because he writes manic pixie dream girls/guys and overly-intelligent pretentious teenage characters (a fair enough criticism), but I'm still excited for his new book. I'm not expecting brilliance, but I think he's self-aware enough to do something a bit different this time. *shrug* That's just me tho.

i don't think i've ever mentioned it on here, but since pride month is almost over i'm giving a shoutout to all non-binary people here on goodreads, as i myself am genderfluid. And of course a shoutout to all the pansexual people, too. be proud of who we are, guys. 🏳️‍🌈

What happened in Manchester is horrible. Concerts are supposed to be a safe space, especially for teens. My heart goes out to the victims and their families, and to Ariana Grande and her team. awful. 😞

Please do better, Goodreads. You're allowed to have an opinion that differs from the majority, but please stop acting like you're the victim here instead of the marginalized people who feel hurt by the book's content. You can enjoy problematic media, it's okay (I certainly do). But you have to acknowledge the criticisms of it, too.

And one more thing: for the love of all that is holy, please, please, PLEASE learn about systemic racism. It is still a thing that happens (especially in America), and it is still a thing that effects people of color every. Single. Day. and PS: lol @ people who think being called racist is worse than actually, y'know, BEING RACIST.

1: one-starring a book you have not read, while stupid, is mot censorship. 2: even saying, "don't read this book!" isn't censorship. 3: Unless there are people actively trying to stop stores and online retailers from selling this book, no one is trying to censor the author.

It's one thing to get upset over someone writing a scathing review of a book you love, but when you have MULTIPLE people, ESPECIALLY POC telling you that something is racist and completely missing the mark on the message it's trying to sell, don't throw a tantrum and act like you or the author are being censored.

I have to say this about The Black Witch controversy: if you want to read it, fine. If you have a different interpretation of it, fine. If you disagree that it's racist, fine. But if people of color are telling you why they think it's shitty and harmful, do NOT sit there and accuse them of not understanding racism. Honestly, how fucking dare you?

So the book is pretty good so far and probably the most accurate i've read on the subject of self-harm. Glasgow really nails it here.

it's also very triggering, unfortunately. but i'm going to keep going because i'm enjoying this.

the depiction of Charlie's thought process while she's cutting and the vicious cycle of it is too damn accurate. i'm wondering if the author has had her own issues with self-harming, because people who don't self-harm don't seem to understand how we tend to rationalize it. either that or she's done enough research to get it. either way, it hits very close to home.

so who watched the Oscars tonight?! That was literally one of the wildest things I've ever seen. So happy Moonlight won, such an important film. But man, that was so nuts.

Spent Saturday morning/afternoon in San Francisco (BEAUTIFUL) and the night in Sacramento at a Twenty One Pilots show. one of the highlights was them and the opening bands doing a cover of Tubthumping and No Diggety. SO GOOD. My entire body is so sore, but it's worth it.

I'll be participating in the Women's March in my city in approximately seven hours. Way too anxious/excited to sleep. I'm done sitting around and complaining on the internet, time to actually get some shit done. To everyone else marching or planning to watch online, I march in solidarity with you. Stay safe, stay strong. ✊

lately I've been seeing non-mixed people on twitter and tumblr going after biracial people who are white-passing and trying to dictate what they call themselves (like Halsey for example, and Diego Luna, though he's not mixed). I'm white-passing & I 100% recognize my privilege. I am still biracial. I'm proud of that and I'm valid. Don't get it twisted.
