i am so picky about “magical realism” as a genre and its throwing me off so bad that this is such a highly recommended MR collection bc so far it is just fantasy

i have had book mail for days but i am too lazy to go get it. sorry books

i think nyrbs are beautiful but for some reason i literally cannot read them i hate the font or something

my library has a beanstack and u basically log ur reading and can get a free book (which usually is like. shitty selections) but its so fun to log and be like yay! free book soon:) idk its motivating i rly was like a competition reader as a kid i even got a free mary downing hahn book which like altered my reading taste to what it is today

wow……. i tried to read uhhh the lake by yoshimoto a while back and enjoyed the writing but put it down. this is amazing, im really enjoying it. she has beautiful descriptions and this one is kind of philosophical. just finished the lizard story and i think this whole book will stick with me if it continues like this!

heres the problem: i think she does nonlinear timeline really, really well and seamlessly. however (spoilers) i dont think i like almost anything else about this. i know everyone read this years ago but does it get…. better? im having a hard time connecting to a lot of the characters due to tropes i hate or the cast is too large and i want to like them. i dont know. should i dnf???? i want to finish for the show:/

my only real goal this yr is to read a longggggg book (500+ pages) but i need to stop finding other books i want to read so i can actually commit………. yes 2666 is being put on hold
