Ahhhh back to Gemmell 😍

I’m disappointed but it started picking up 10 pages ago so I’m hoping it mounts to a decent ending

“I find her voice cold, lazy; it plays with the ears as a cat plays with a caught mouse.” I read this aloud and Hubert replied with “kitty!!!!”

The first page already gave me chill. Can't wait to keep reading :)

Last night I told myself “only a few pages and then I’ll go to sleep”. I’d gone to bed early expecting to get a good 8 hours but instead 10 pages turned into almost 110. UNPUTDOWNABLE! I cried, my stomach flipped and I had to ponder for half an hour afterwards, unable to comprehend what I had just read. It has been a long time since such emotions have been invoked through a book. Incredible!

The main character is a ‘pick-me’ which I dislike but the story is very well executed! Enjoying it so far

I can't find the edition I'm reading on Goodreads but I am 40/443 pages in. Just finishing up the section on Variation under Domestication. Very interesting observations using pigeons as an example! The English used requires 100% of my concentration but that's the beauty of reading a book from 1859!
