Wasn't expecting to get so many cat-POV thoughts/opinions, but it's fun so far...

I'm enjoying the story so far, but I've now read three chapters from Grace's POV set in 1996 and in every one of these chapters there have been name mix-ups calling her Jaden (who is the present day POV character and hasn't even been born yet in 1996). You could make a drinking game out of it! It's a little distracting. (I'm reading an ARC, so I hope this error will get fixed before publication.)

Okay, so I've posted two comments in the last hour and apparently that's too much already and I'm not able to comment on any other discussions right now, but get a "try again later" error. I really hope this is a temporary glitch and not a new policy... (If it is a permanent new policy, I really don't get the people on here who decide to "fix" things that don't need fixing, but never the things that could use fixing)

Two chapters in, I can't really say much about the characters or plot yet, but I'm not vibing with the writing. So many times I'm stumbling over awkward word choices or awkward sentence structures. So many times I'm thinking "that sentence doesn't even mean anything, what exactly is this trying to tell me?" Not sure if I want to make myself wade through the writing long enough to actually get to the story...

Somehow I ended up with NetGalley ARCs of two different Lusitania novels... Guess my end-of-year reading will have an unplanned theme.

4 hours until Kirkyards & Kindness. Just enough time for a nap maybe... Because you bet I'll be starting at midnight. I missed Mallory and Duncan so much, can't wait to get a new piece of their story tonight!

This was a Black Friday deal, so I'm reading this one first before continuing my ARC of And Now, Back to You.

So bogged down in worldbuilding that it forgets to set a plot in the world it's building. It hasn't done anything with any of the visited "book worlds" other than name-dropping them. And it has reduced an interesting main character to nothing more than constantly asking questions about the (somehow still shallow) worldbuilding. And holding up what little plot there is with spending page time on costume changes.

I know this is set during a very cold winter... but the plot is moving soooo glacially! The insight into the day-to-day life of people at this time was interesting at first, but it's getting repetitive... Also the way the story is told feels distant and lacking emotion... I was expecting more of a mystery story about a murder and rape case, but most of it is a midwife delivering baby after baby in a very routine way.
