At what point are we calling the police??? It’s giving Heretic meets Barbarian.

I can’t believe I still have 150 (!) pages left in this book

The amount of times these people are driving back and forth 3 hours each way is really stressing me out

OK now it’s picking up a bit

I’m enjoying the way it’s unfolding, the macabre feel of it, and the character of Alex, but the pacing feels off, and I haven’t really gotten to know any of the other characters yet. It’s keeping my attention, but I can’t say that would be true if it wasn’t an audiobook.

The sheer length overwhelmed me, but the chapters are short and the pacing is excellent so far

It’s reminding me of a very detailed version of the Keanu Reeves movie Constantine (high praise)

Was Lisa Jewell kidnapped at some point in her life??? So many of her books are about sick, twisted kidnappings and/or horrifying abusive childhoods. (And yet I still fall for it almost every time, thinking the plot might be different…)

The modern names are taking me out of the period setting somewhat — I don’t think girls were named Ashton and Bailey in 1950. I’d expect more Joans and Susans and Dorothys.
