All hells breaks loose one Kalia is killed. Ceril summons wraiths, Nyssa and the gang manage to leave, Athen and Yuha are creating havoc and aids their escape. On the whisper, Safin (new emperor) saves Quinn from poison, Nyssa discovers Decia is Medias mother after she attacks her when she realises she killed she parents. Ceril will likely become Emperor. Things are only getting worse.

Coley goes out and meets some people, cause she nearly gets run over. A group of friends, Sonya, Trenton, Alex and SJ. They invite her to the lake but things take a turn when Trenton tries to throw her in the water (he’s one of those guys - a dick). Coley leaves and Sonya follow her, they get into a pissy match, kinda, but in the end exchange numbers.

My love/hate relationship: first person narration. So far I’m liking it.

Set in 2006. We don’t know too much off the bat other than our main narration is coming from Coley, a half white/half Asian girl, who’s not like other girls. Coley moves to “bumfuck nowhere Oregon” after her mum passes to live with her dad, who she doesn’t know.

It’s got me interested enough to keep reading.

Nyssa and Quinn are granted their audience with the Empress and have insurance, a parley that they own the harmed/arrested. Things don’t go as smoothly, Ceril (the dick) turns up and Nyssa and Ceril get into a pissing contest, enough that Kalia wants to know more about Cerils deeds and it makes him fearful, he gloats that the only reason he killed Erin was to break Nyssa. All hell breaks loose after this reveal!

We kick off right we’re book two ended. The girls seeking an audience out the Empress. Nyssa and Quinn decide to go off and sneak Suvi out without alerting their friends to not put them in danger. They are met with the head Judiciar who tells them they’ll have to be collared before they can see the Empress. And it’s only morning.

Nyssa and Quinn do the thing 😏

They discuss trying to get Ayris back. They meet with Karon again, who turns out to be Quinn’s sigil and Nyssa finds out that hers is a Kraken, like her ring. They leave the woods, say goodbye to Cyphon, who is hilarious with his one liners, “what an odd query. No of course not” “are either of you dead” and start on their journey again!

Nyssa’s magick is back!

The trio go into the Forrest and they end up meeting Cyphon.
He is a Sential of Kasos, the God of the realm of night, who feels Nyssa still has a spark of magick. Nyssa is the only one who can save both herself and Quinn.

Ayris tells Nyssa her plan. Athen joins them. Nyssa decides to go at it alone but Athen and Ayris find her before she can. Into the Realm of Shadows they go to save Quinn. They do manage to but not everyone comes out. Nyssa finds out that Quinn didn’t destroy her magic, she just took it into herself and it’s now killing her.
Medias and Reece are adorable and are in their way to help them.

I’ve fallen off the wagon a bit with reading, but we press on!

Nyssa and Quinn get captured. They’re betrayed by Ayris. Nyssa loses her powers. She goes back to Oceans Rest. She knows she’s dying so goes off and tries to drinks/gambles herself to death. She’s found by Ayris who has a plan to recuse Quinn. Nyssa reluctantly agrees as she loves Quinn.

Nyssa and Quinn are back on the Whisper. An old friend finds them, but not all is as it seems. They are captured and are being taken to Suvi.

Nyssa and Quinn get sold out and have to fight Nyssa’s old order. Nyssa and Quinn fight back on the ship and nearly render it in two. Nyssa leaves for a week, Quinn js angry and whe Nyssa return Quinn tells her they need time apart after Suvi. In Oceans Rest, Athen and Medias talk and Reece and Medias bond a little more.

Ayris had been called back to Wayland to teach, Athen doesn’t want her to go.
In Waylands, Ayris is attacked by her students with forbidden magick. She is summoned to Ceril and she believes he sent them after her.
Nyssa, Quinn and Fontaine reunite with Elias and Hannah Whisper and put the first step of their plan in motion. Bring wine to a festival hosted by Suvi. Nothing can possibly go wrong.

Nyssa and Quinn continue to work with Fontaine and their powers.
Medias and Reece seem to be somewhat getting along.

Nyssa and Quinn are harnessing their newfound powers, with the help of Fontaine as they plan to overthrow the Pirate Queen . They’re also starting to realise their feelings for each other.

As well as harnessing their powers, they also help each other. Nyssa teaches Quinn how to fight and Quinn teaches (a reluctant Nyssa) how to swim.

Nyssa and Quinn escape Oceans Rest.
Elias and Fontaine (a women disguised as a chicken) come up with a plan.
Medias the Judiciar, and Reece come to logger heads.
Nyssa and Quinn work on their magick with Fontaine on their hidden island.

Nyssa and Quinn escape - Nyssas magick is uncontrollable. Fontaine reveres her true self and tells Quinn and Nyssa what they are. Their ship gets attacked by Elfa. Quinn’s magick erupts and Elfa flees with the rest of the assassins leaving Quinn and Nyssa unharmed.

And we’re getting right into it!

Kicks off right where book one ended. Nyssa and Quinn run, Quinn gets badly injured. Nyssa uses her newly unlocked magick and can’t seem to control it! Elias to the rescue.

Ceril - dick.
Medias - no idea if we can trust her yet, wants to talk to Athen, Reece, Ayris and Lilliana about what happened!

I’m still not finished this, but I’m loving how long it’s taking me as I don’t want to rush this!

Quinn maybe starting to get through Nyssa’s armour enough that she might not hand her over when they return? We will see. 🫣

Travelling and life getting in the way of me getting back to this. 🫣

Not much has happened since finding Quinn, except her being incredibly rude during dinner. 😭

3 weeks after the wraith attack, they manage to find Quinn - and she seems a force to reckoned with.

Things are starting to get intense. Wraith attacks, near death experiences. And we’re not even half way through.

They met their tracker, a young royal woman called Ayris, whose brother doesn’t like Nyssa - nothing new really. She has a fight with too Obsadian Guild members - which she wins but the guy uses magic against her - rude. Nyssa and Reeces relationship grows. Reece knows Nyssa is scared of falling in love but tells her she’ll meet someone who she isn’t scared to fall in love with!Still not sure if I trust Reece?

Nyssa and Athen arrive in Oceans Rest to start their search for Quinn. Lilliana, Athen’s mother tells Nyssa more about her parents - more than likely pirates killed at sea. She meets Reece, Athen’s friend, who is an empath and seems to like Nyssa.

Her adopted father Eron, also part of the Emerald Order, is proud of what she’s become and says she will become an Ashcloak when she returns.
