I'm in that Chernobyl, Grey's Anatomy, catastrophe mood for a book.

Picked it up at Waterstones. Tragedian narratives especially exploring trauma will always be of utmost interest. So far, very disjointed. No chapter numbers. So yes, it does feel like you're travelling through the mind of a person with complex trauma.

I absolutely hate Strane.

Russell wrote the scenes of her disassociating sublimely. I was immersed in it. Ruby is doing a phenomenal job at deconstructing the self-villany Vanessa unfortunately possesses at the hand of Strane's conniving and flat out barbaric behaviour.

I mean... I honestly couldn't care less that Strane decided to end himself. He was a disgusting, manipulative, abusive coward. The fact public started feeling sympathy for him because of it and called his victims tyrannical feminists (or something to that effect) is asinine. Also, her mom saying she was ashamed is just sad... Doesn't matter how much the situation may upset you — your child was abused. Stop blaming.

Goes without saying but Strane is a sick bastard. Goes to show that abusers and people who groom don't care about their victims at all. Self-serving, abusing rats.

Vanessa deep down understands he is a pedo but is suffering from Stockholm. It's so agonising!

Blegh! Horrendous and sickening to read. Heartbreaking.

Ira was a bit of a spiteful bum for pointing out he's in a new relationship and has moved on. Dude, whatever the drama is with Vanessa, have some tact. The guy who groomed her, Strane, is still manipulating her and she is now dealing with the harsh reality of his abuse being exposed, therefore, facing the reality that their relationship was indeed abusive. Why rub salt in the wound with info that you have moved on?

This is such a difficult book to consume... The blatant slow grooming is intolerable but through Vanessa's eyes, she makes it sound so alluring and sexy. It's horrible. It's grating. Yikes!

His "courtship" had to be slow because he was grooming you, Vanessa.
