Cute and cozy fantasy

Umm, where is the plot?

I absolutely ate this up. Yes, it follows Hazelwood’s formula of “he’s big and she’s small” but for once, we don’t get a Reylo image. Here she gives a Clark Kent comparison & I am here for it. Jesse is obsessed with to the extent that he cannot even function around Viola. And it’s so nice to read a female character who knows she’s smart and talented.

He’s the grumpy prince, returning home as a political pawn.

She’s the magical dressmaker commissioned to make garments for his wedding.

This is a super slow burn, whimsical magical read that is perfect for fans of Bridgerton and Violet Made of Thorns. You have royals, politics, a unique magic system, and a happily ever after. There’s a very small amount of spice but the tension and angst make up for it.

Ugh this book is so long

The writing is amateur and some lines are so cringe worthy, I can’t stop giggling

The initial relationship between Liam and Anna was incredibly awkward. Anna just seemed so ridiculously immature. Liam was so dry and difficult to read.

The second half was much more interesting. As the story developed, I was completely engrossed in the whole toxic family drama. It was great to see that the character development was centered on Liam and his ability to walk away from his family’s mess.

The fact that I can take a nap while listening and know that not much has changed in the plot tells you something. But my OCD is determined to make me finish.

Finishing this book has become a chore. I’ve lost track of how many references to ACOTAR I’ve come across.

I’m chipping away, determined not to DNF only because of the exorbitant amount of money spent to ship this book halfway across the world. For someone whose favorite genre is romantic fantasy, this is a struggle.

Halfway done and if they don't leave this forest soon, I swear I'm going to DNF.
