First story was brilliant. Veres' writing has only improved since his last outing, and 'a pit full of teeth' marks some of his most creative and unnerving work yet. A few of his typical fascination come up (music/bands that shouldn't exist being the most noticeable by this point), and I love the detail of the fictional story "To Dust" being his own "Fogtown" from the Black Maybe. Eager to read more of this one.

Brubaker's intro notes that after book #6 went in a weirder direction from the main series, he realized he could get away with more experimental stories in the universe he's written and I'd say he's absolutely right. The first half blends a story of Teeg trying to survive a stint ib jail with a price on his head with a thematically relevant Conan knockoff comic he reads in his cell. A solid short story overall.
