Amazingly, this fantasy novel was written in 1896 and preceded the novels of Tokien and C.S. Lewis...it paved the route for the many fantasy novels that followed. Yes some of the language is unfamiliar but it's very interesting so far

Really like the humour and pathos mixed together in this book. And the dog is great!

It's impossible to read this book / these characters without becoming emotional invested in their survival.

Slow going, compared to the Expanse novels where there is a fight or some action sequence every 50 pages! Also, didn't read book 1 which seems to be a big deficit here ...
