Gosh even at the peak of the excitement im so taken out of it by Gwynne's tendency to reuse the same metaphors and smilies again and again for every character and every other chapter, it is frustrating to read the same things reused for nearly 500 pages. Also Gwynne never gives enough reaction or time to his events and twists, like we didn't see anyone else's reaction in the Battle-Grim to Bïorrs betrayl :/

And is he wrong?? Methinks Bïorr still slays because the Battle-Grim had it coming for them considering the business they do BUT ALSO Bïorr is part of the group kidnapping and thrall-collaring little children so he can't really be acting all high and mighty like that and he's still wrong for that lol

Mid-ass reaction to hearing the dragon god was under their feet but I digress as I've been complaining so much (but also fuck the battle-grim, they are so annoying like Sighvat was unbearably obnoxious this chapter like who do you think you are buddy?? You're not that guy)

Elvar is SO entitled I can't stand her

She just inserts herself everywhere, goes whever she wants, does whatever she wants and gets away with it somehow?? Mind you she's only been there for 3 years... I would bet the rest of the Battle-Grim hate her lmao she is so privileged and entitled to being in the middle of everything it's like she's bypassed all rank in the battle-grim & i find it hard to tie it to her skill

Can't believe it was easier for the Battle-Grim to find Oskutreð than it's been for Orka to find her son...

I fully thought the journey would be detailed & gruesome and SO MUCH HARDER because NO ONE'S found it since the war, making it 300+ years. The Battle-Grim ain't THAT special if special at all. So anticlimactic

Maybe I' disappointed because I thought it would be a 2 book journey and not a couple chapters...

Would be shook about the Bloodsworn if I didn't spoil it for myself-
Mixed feelings about all this information being dropped 418 pages in with the least amount of foreshadowing, hinting or context clues except the painfully obvious foreshadowing of Varg being a Tainted
It made it surprising if not forced but also like ... okay :/

In the beginning, I was able to excuse the lack of in-depth world building, explanations and the complete lack of culture/ritual and details of the inner-working of groups like the Battle-Grim and Bloodsworn... but now it just feels less like the author taking his time and more like maybe he never thought very detailed about his characters, places, and groups in the first place 👀

I did not expect them to make it here already...

Also of all the people to have this special journey you don't want it to be the battle-grim :/ or at least I really don't want it to be lol

And what else does Elvar have to prove to her father?? She is annoying me and her character is built on every cliche ever without the nuance that makes them enjoyable still

This book is just such a joy to read and I really love it. The characters and everything feel so real to me and endlessly complex and consistent.

Also I'm sarting to feel bad for all 3 of the bastards lol (Odba, Taya, and Éremón)

AND ÍR BECOMING SO BELOVED TO ME??? SUPRISE but the dancing scene was just so special and him grabbing Odba made me smile because I feel so sad for her :(

My WORST reading flaw is that I always skip to read that last page at some point, usually before reading...but I just got bored and read the last few paragraphs again and when I tell you I GASPED

Lost me a little because I simply don't like or care enough about Elvar to see her start a WHOLE new thing and her dreams basically come true after getting her battle fame the way she did

Also yes we did see her fight and she's good but I feel like she's still too inexperienced to be given the opportunity she just got...

Like it feels like glazing of a character I fear I deeply dislike and doesn't deserve it lol

Biórr is a sweetheart, a little too kindhearted and sweet in this world so i worry for his survival lol but hopefully the baddie won't fall

And also his kindness to Bjorn is weird because like... aren't you the reason/part of the group that tore his family apart forever, made his dad a slave, and has done it to many others too??? Like the kindness of the battle-grim is lowley meaningless considering what they do :/

Bruh... I know he did not end Elvars last chapter like THAT and then starts this one with her waking up the next day 😑

VERY excited for where everyone's story is heading

And the curse of the leaving conversation strikes again...literally Orkas next chapter and what I feared most has happened 😭😭😭

Orka and Thorkel are so in love and its grieving me because I think I know what happens...

"And as you cannot even find your nose to wipe it..." did in fact make me laugh out loud and felt way too good to read. I hate little punkass Guðvarr, but I enjoy what he adds to the book as a character. And Virk is eating up 👏
