I like the character voice but I’m not particularly fond of the actual execution of the story compared to the TV adaptation. It just feels a little… messy? But it isn’t awful of course

I do have to say the writing style is a little bit lackluster, but that could be because it’s from Percy’s perspective. He does otherwise genuinely have a pretty funny character voice, I’m curious to see it bloom more.

The “Jim” typo took me out lol.
But this is cute! I am a little curious what the reason for forgoing mentioning Hoseok leaving once pre-debut was, though. Not that it’s any big deal, it was probably just better narratively.

Ohhhh so the mutts chase Cato first in the book… interesting.

So I guess the district 1 boy caught Rue in the trap and just waited the hours until Katniss shows up? It’s not entirely clear how long Rue is stuck but I wouldn’t doubt it. Also, I like seeing Foxface, she feels less forgettable in the book.

Katniss’ and Rue’s alliance hasn’t even officially begun yet and I already love her

I can’t decided whether I like book Cinna or movie Cinna better, but either way he’s a great character so far. I think I like Katniss’ interview with Flickerman more in the book, though.

People saying Katniss is an unreliable narrator is 100% so true but I absolutely love her anyways

The ending feels a little meh — would have felt better if it had been a written scene and not just a text screenshot. How does she even avoid her family for that long.

Regardless, pretty decent final story.

Okay we’re only halfway-ish through, but predictions: Jason Bell, Daniel da Silva, OR by some painful twist, Nat da Silva.

I love that you can tell that so much of this was planned. The tie-backs to the first book are great. I wish I’d read the first two more recently so I could catch some of these myself!

The stick figures moving is kind of fun, in a way. What happens when they actually get to her window, though? And who’s going to bother climbing to draw them?

I adore Ravi, but I’m kind of worried they’re going to split up. Pip is so restless, she’s really impulsive.

Okay, so the tape might play in somehow. The piece on the road sign “Thatcher Poad” and now on her shoe.

I really like that Pip and Nat became friends. I actually hope we see more of Pip’s friendship in general — they fell flat in the last book for various reasons and didn’t get to fully come through in the first. And I can’t say I blame her over the chalk drawings and pigeons, I’d jump to the same conclusions even without her traumas.

I’m guessing Max is going to play a much larger role in this book one way or another. I like the use of the gunshot as a haunting figure for Pippa, but I’m not sure about the eyes. I think pages 38-39 encapsulate how her perspective is scrambled now from her experiences.

Petal being really hardened by her experiences and caring about basically no one but still having a soft spot for kits is actually really sweet.

Clear Sky continues to be rude, what’s new. Poor Thunder just wants to find his place. (It’s interesting already seeing the division between what will make ThunderClan vs SkyClan: Clear Sky’s confidence in the trees vs Thunder’s confidence in the undergrowth.)

The other cats are kind of half right: Gray Wing has the compassion to be leader, but it would be that same compassion that would make him struggle in conflicts against rouges and Clear Sky’s group.

Gray Wing tries to be a good cat but he’s an overthinker and I relate so much lol.
