The fact that Diana’s battle kangaroo is named Jumpa is the sickest fucking shit ever

It fills me with great, vindictive pleasure to be able to say that Neil Gaiman is a no talent hack who basically copied this issue’s pandemonium with both the dream sickness AND 24 Hours. If it wasn’t for this comic, and its style, its hell, its utilization of DC proper - Sandman wouldn’t have been shit. Happy to say this is the superior series lol

A special thank you to my lovely wife for gifting this to me just cuz. As much as the movie means to me, this copy is already an important possession. Love you Montana.

As for the story: 18 pages in I can safely say that for 1928 that’s the ballsiest prologue ever, and Severign is already more tragic here, because she has some accessible personality and humanity, unlike the brilliant but dead-fish Deneuve version

“However, when I woke up, the cliffs and the sea and the slanting rays of the sun seemed to be still before my eyes, which, for the very first time in my life, were filled with tears. I remember those tears because I was happy and quite unashamed of them. A feeling of still unexperienced happiness rushed into my heart, making it ache.”

If I could get Kirilov’s half-baked dissertation hanging on my wall AND into the hands of all the dnd players who lost their minds when I killed myself in-game a few weeks ago I would be so happy lmfao

This is the modernist spider-man comic I never knew I wanted but am so incredibly glad exists. Cynical, cold, Killing Joke-like, eerie. Very exciting

I have to admit, above the Bat, above the Hulk, after all this Spidey reading, he’s gonna have to take the cake as best superhero. For him that’s great, for my other guys, sorry. Honorable mentions at this point though probably include, in order:

2. Nite Owl I
3. Batman
4. The Hulk & Iron Man (tied)
5. Ol’ Frank Castle (for his darkness and irony)
6. Supes
7. Rorschach (for his character writing)
8. Cardiac

I actually really like it, and definitely like it more than the second book. Both a negative and a positive for me about Lagercrantz is that he’s more direct and to the point than Stieg was. It makes for a smoother read but also loses a bit of density that came with the og’s long-winded character examinations. You lose the classic Salander wanderings but gain a more clean and compartmentalized story. Good shit

Big shoes to fill here but it also benefits tremendously from a fresh, just as cool, dynamic and interesting perspective. This is my first Slott and it’s a totally different line-up of characters he plays with as primaries, characterizations, and plot concepts.

AND this is the Spidey I grew up with, but the one I only read about instead of reading. Jackpot’s here, Menace, Mr. Negative - so exciting

Halfway through issue 4 and I’m not a fan. Why you need more than just Amazing for one guy I can’t say - gotta go read some og Web of and Spectacular to grasp why this method’s so commonplace). So far it’s a jumbled up cluster/artist/writer showcase that feels like the same Man-Spider or Losing Powers story we’ve seen a bajillion times gone 2000s excessive. Such a weird sales method I’m tellin you

I’m going to be very sad once I’ve reached the end of this. Stieg would have had so much to say if he’d lived even a few years longer.

It took me till page 220 of the third book of the entire trilogy to finally understand why the Swedish legal system arrested Blomkvist for libel. It’s also taken this chapter (Chapter 12) for me to wonder if all his explanations on Swedish law are in here FOR other countries (which means he believed Millenium would be a massive success), or if he believed fellow Swedes to be that clueless about their own country.
