I have to admit, above the Bat, above the Hulk, after all this Spidey reading, he’s gonna have to take the cake as best superhero. For him that’s great, for my other guys, sorry. Honorable mentions at this point though probably include, in order:

2. Nite Owl I
3. Batman
4. The Hulk & Iron Man (tied)
5. Ol’ Frank Castle (for his darkness and irony)
6. Supes
7. Rorschach (for his character writing)
8. Cardiac

I actually really like it, and definitely like it more than the second book. Both a negative and a positive for me about Lagercrantz is that he’s more direct and to the point than Stieg was. It makes for a smoother read but also loses a bit of density that came with the og’s long-winded character examinations. You lose the classic Salander wanderings but gain a more clean and compartmentalized story. Good shit

Big shoes to fill here but it also benefits tremendously from a fresh, just as cool, dynamic and interesting perspective. This is my first Slott and it’s a totally different line-up of characters he plays with as primaries, characterizations, and plot concepts.

AND this is the Spidey I grew up with, but the one I only read about instead of reading. Jackpot’s here, Menace, Mr. Negative - so exciting

Halfway through issue 4 and I’m not a fan. Why you need more than just Amazing for one guy I can’t say - gotta go read some og Web of and Spectacular to grasp why this method’s so commonplace). So far it’s a jumbled up cluster/artist/writer showcase that feels like the same Man-Spider or Losing Powers story we’ve seen a bajillion times gone 2000s excessive. Such a weird sales method I’m tellin you

I’m going to be very sad once I’ve reached the end of this. Stieg would have had so much to say if he’d lived even a few years longer.

It took me till page 220 of the third book of the entire trilogy to finally understand why the Swedish legal system arrested Blomkvist for libel. It’s also taken this chapter (Chapter 12) for me to wonder if all his explanations on Swedish law are in here FOR other countries (which means he believed Millenium would be a massive success), or if he believed fellow Swedes to be that clueless about their own country.

Bro secretly halfway created She-Ra AND wrote the MAX version of Inertia for Squadron Supreme: feminist icon.

There were not many threats that could not be countered with a decent hammer, Salander thought.

Stieg knew that it’s always the instigator that gets a pass, and that the victim is always blamed. Lisbeth might sum up everything that I believe about being alive.

No one other than this incredible, beautiful man could have written Dan Dreiberg’s backstory, or Edith’s in Squadron Supreme. No one else could have written the greatest start of a superhero movie franchise so discredited. No one else could write more honestly, because no one else has experienced as much pain and lived who writes comics. I love Michael, and I’m so glad he hasn’t only survived, but flourished

As a matter of fact, Sweden has a horribly seedy underbelly beneath all this exceptionally deliberated intrigue, and Men Who Hate Women (the book’s original title) is setting out to be sure we experience every hideous, reprehensible thing that there is about it…and about all men, particularly those with a Right-winged mindset. Very excited to dive in.

We’re very wrong. Sweden is much more dense than Mikael’s movie introduction lets on, and the beginning of the story no longer feels as neo-satirical by comparison. I can take it seriously now because Stieg refused to gloss over anything ever.

I don’t know if AIA was real or if half the facts for this intro are fictitious, but goddamn are they convincing, and either way clearly based on immense research. Bc of this I’m hooked by a very real backbone of economic world-building now, instead of believing - like most Americans do - that Sweden is relatively tame in the intrigue world, and because of that, finding the opening of the film almost laughable.

Haven’t had time to sit down and type this out until now. Unlike the Swedish version of the movie (the original and only one I’ve watched - excellent movie), this goes into impressive detail about the economic world and underworld of Sweden, tracing all the way back to the socioeconomic impact the dissolution of the Eastern Bloc had on the country.
