This book is putting (well thought out) words to so many of the concerns I have when reading a text outside of it's original language! It also blessedly puts some of those concerns to rest. If I can manage to make any progress on this considering how many books I've started and not finished recently, it should be one of my favorite pieces of literary theory!

Each chapter is a backflip between "is the author a pervert or are the characters written to be perverts." The jury's still out!

I’m no longer keeping up with updates but I’m so fascinated at the close attention paid to “masculinity of the man in the kitchen.” Of course it exists but it’s something I’ve given so little thought to!

I'm finding myself really frustrated with this book. I'm interested of the concept of queer women in stem but I dislike the format of historical fiction. It's beholden both to the fictional narrative and the stakes of the character "Kate" and the historical facts of Dr. Kathleen Croft, and has to make concessions on both sides.

That's a complaint about the form, but I also don't care for the prose. Might not finish.

Among other things, a thrilling expose on Freud's origins as a misguided pervert.

Becoming more and more interesting. I’m only distracted by the content included seemingly to maintain interest, such as the catchy title and mention of murder. Tell me more about the philosophy surrounding dictionaries!

Not a huge fan of the writing or the characters or really anything except for the concept that suddenly *wife*. Something I've been talking about with friends recently is that I don't think I'm fit for dating, I just need to skip to being happily married, and this certainly fulfills that fantasy.

I think this book has come very close to a Borat impression and we'll see if it doesn't get there.
