Fine so far. Preaching to choir. Makes interesting point about we’re programmed to see faces, so we see them everywhere.

Good opening. Ties into my current life in two ways:

First, the narrator is Russian and many names are Russian, so it’s fun being able to see how his bad grammar comes about and to be able to pronounce the names that a year ago would have unpronounceable.

Second, it’s all about his interaction with an AI named Mike. Comparing it to what is going on __right now__ in my own industry is quite interesting.

The second thing about the meteorite that made me laugh was that I actually was trying to figure out what McCarthy meant by “meteorite”. Because, yknow, everything is a metaphor with him. But no, turns out for once that this spade was just a spade.

This is a one-star book.

Another thing that just happened: there was some large meteorite found. People placed bets on whether the judge could move it 10’. He did.

So… cool, that was something that happened. Like everything else, it merely happened. Like everything else, if this was cut from the manuscript, the book/story/plot would not change one iota.

There are entire chapters that you could skip without missing anything. You wouldn’t miss any plot. You’d just miss out on some more boring, senseless, predictable violence. So done with this book. But I’m gonna stick it out.

Sometimes the endless description makes me forget what’s actually happening.

I’m not finding this terribly interesting so far. Just a boy subjected to and inflicting violence. Is there a story here? A point? We just go from one situation to the next. Things just seem to happen.

Sometimes I wondered if he died at the end of each chapter but somehow, as if in an alternate universe, he continues on in the next chapter.

Not mad about it.

I can’t help but wonder if his examples (infinite-minded team doing well; finite ones doing poorly) are cherry picked.

It shows its age, for sure. But the action sequence with the pig things attacking his house - that was pretty well done.

Meh. How is this different from Start With Why? They both basically say “you’re run a better business if you can inspire people with a vision”.

That said, it is an interesting metaphor, the “infinite game.”

I also think the idea is patently crap. I don’t care what a company’s product is or what their vision is. I just want to work with people who share my same “how”.

Kinda interesting so far I guess. Not sure I’ll keep up with it. But I kinda wanna push myself out of my comfort zone with this book.

So many names. Hard to keep track of. I also find the main character a bit overly angry and unbelievable.

Ugh, boring. I just want it done. Sooo much spoken exposition. So much exposition too by characters, describing things in detail that they never should.

The main character seems to have no agency. I’m not at all concerned for his safety.

This is the best one I’ve started yet. Not a surprise - the other books I got from the library are more like grammar reference books.
