Imbler's voice is bubbling with intelligence. The premise of this book is lovely. The author relates moments of their life to fascinating aspects of undersea life. It felt at times like I was learning of an alien world while shooting back into the lived experience of a queer human being. I was really engaged the first half, but I did begin to feel like the subject matter was repeating itself in the last half.

You can feel Oliver’s awe for the world in this collection. It’s a beautiful gift to have such a mind. I particularly loved her work from the ‘80s and ‘90s— it felt like she had really gotten her stride and voice as a poet; which is inspiring considering she was then in her 40’s and 50’s. This was a beautiful read.
