Amy is 45% done with Edith Wharton at Home: Life at the Mount
A most pleasant way to spend a summer afternoon! Highly recommended for those interested in literary history, interior design, American architectural history, etc. The coffee table size is deceptive-- this is an engagingly well written and researched book.

My public library only has ONE copy of this book. (wtf?) So now I have to wait another six weeks to get it again.

"... What do you suppose Lord Sebastian wanted? A hair brush for his teddy-bear; it had to have very stiff bristles, not, Lord Sebastian said, to brush him with, but to threaten him with a spanking when he was sulky. He bought one with an ivory back and he's having "Aloysius" engraved on it-- that's the bear's name.' The man who, in his time, had had ample chance to tire of undergraduate fantasy, was captivated."

Finally reading Seligman because:

1. I ran across a used paperback in a store called "Cheapo Applause" (yes really) that is across from my vacation rental.

2. I'm a lifelong optimist (it's served me well) and now I have tons of scientific evidence to back up my worldview when confronted by all the Debbie Downers of the world. (p.s. Seligman says they're most likely going to die an early death anyway).
