Two questions:
1) How did she have zero questions about magic existing?
2) If she's so tight with her aunt, why haven't they talked about her abrupt change in schooling? No questions about why she's taking less hours at work? Nada? Zip? She mentions she's invited to go out to the academy, and that's it.

K, I almost tossed the book when he brought up her dirty underwear. Luckily for the author, the crew at the nearby table saved the situation.
At 24%, though, I shouldn't still be bored.

Weird characters. They talk twice and he gets miffed like a teenage girl when she doesn't agree to go out with him.
As for her, well. 1) Don't take a pro's gun, even if they are a wimp; 2) if you're going to mouth off, don't faceplant; 3) no wild cub just lets itself get picked up.

And this is why I never just rush out to buy new books by any author.
In the first place, I've already lost track of how many different characters have been introduced. 5? Make that 5.5. 7.5?
I also don't appreciate swear words, ever, but figured I could tolerate a few in this genre.
Then the f word dropped--and I dropped the book.

The first line was close to a DNF point for me. I made it a few paragraphs further before the flippant reference to the Savior did it.
Hard pass.

I'm not sure why I'm still listening to this. They've taken the Lord's name in vain, she's currently in a highly improbable situation, and I'm just generally not enjoying it.
I'll likely never believe a story where someone knuckles under this completely when they don't have to. She'd have been better off running away to her horrid aunt's home before things got this bad. She keeps despairing and doing zilch.

Just caught a plothole. They just agreed that they'd found out Detail X from the police. Nope.

The narrator is making half the characters sound like the dragon king in the narrated version of Patricia C. Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles.

First he drops the towel on the floor, then he wraps it around his shoulders?
Why in *the world* didn't Annie tell the police that she knows someone is hiding something? As in, a physical something? No, just let this someone waltz out the door...

Yeah, I called it. It's too bad, but who else could've done it?

This narrator is going to drive me crazy. I thought they had an issue with pronouncing the word "ask," but it's hit and miss. And other words with "s," I just never know what's going to come out of the speaker.

I'm ready for one of the main side characters to start growing a little, instead of just finding new ways to be outrageous.

Am I the only one shipping Mike and Jennifer?

Lame. Anyone who knows anything about hypothermia knows that this "recommended" procedure is strictly for fiction.

I've heard of abusive cycles, but this is nuts.

Welp, thank goodness for the skip button. I was going to give this book 5 stars, but I really didn't want details about her friend's embarrassing bathroom experience.

Okay, I get he has no sisters. But does he really think she's going to want to learn to shoot? She can't even dance in public without a panic attack and so far he's been wrong with everything he's suggested they do for "fun."
I hope he gets a clue at some point.

K, here's a character I definitely connect with, lol.

I recognized the narrator's voice instantly--and cringed. Not my favorite narrator.

Are bad words becoming the norm in sweet romances?

I don't think it could've gotten closer to a striptease and still missed.
Oddly professional, except where it wasn't.

"Looks like a textbook case of death by (spoiler)."
2 minutes later: "Diagnosing death by (spoiler) is very difficult." as he flips in a completely different direction.

Also, I'm giving this book one more swear word before I DNF.

K, these girls (no idea how old the other 2 are) are creepy. They stand and watch people make out? gag

The narrator is killing me. It's only 2 words, but still.
"Fragrance" isn't pronounced like "fragment."
And "vague" isn't pronounced like "vagabond."

I've never heard anyone ruin a proposal so badly. I'd walk away from him so fast it'd make his head spin.

Okay. Props for a legit reason for their struggle.

He...thinks he's the group leader? For reals?

I'm not connecting with any of these characters. So far the bully is the only one I understand anything about and I don't like him.

If he gets on the, "But I was in love with her before I met you, it's not my fault!" merry-go-round one more time, I'm going to lose any respect I may or may not still have for this guy.

She can't think of any reply to the housekeeper.
How about, "I admire your dedication to your previous mistress. However, if you are incapable of following my simple instructions, I will be happy to write you a recommendation so you may find employment elsewhere."

I'm afraid by now the FMC is coming across as rather spineless.
