Of course the Duden has already adapted these words as most people keep using them in the wrong context. This doesn’t make it right. But language keeps evolving and it’s no use to complain about it. I’ll just have to accept that these words are now used to describe the same thing as their English twin 🙃

It reads like this was translated from English to German. I keep coming across false friends and it’s quite bothering to me.

So many interesting points that can be discussed. Like the fact that when they clone somebody, they can edit out from their dna what makes them ill or disabled. And there are instances in the book where this is mentioned to be done and also one of the Crew decided not to do that because she feels like it’s a part of her. The social criticism in this book is done pretty well.

No spice yet, instead Alba stabbed Eridanys (whose name I can’t pronounce) and Eridanys bit Alba, not in the sexy way

But I’m enjoying this book, the writing is very descriptive of actions, which keeps the story flowing, though sometimes doesn’t keep my attention well. I like the character depth and where the plot is moving. I keep thinking: Is this foreshadowing? It feels like it could be.

The writing is captivating so far and I fear soon there might be the first spice and it might be while I’m reading on public transport, pray for me

This translation feels veeeerrryyy dry and it doesn’t help at all that the German audiobook narrator sounds like a conservatively raised rich countryside woman and narrates in a monotonous voice. There’s no way to connect to the MC on an emotional level this way, but it’s short and chill so far.

So far this is everything wrong with patient treatment in healthcare
Relatable in that aspect and the way in which Shuts (not a cat person) finds the cat incredibly cute despite feeling so bamboozled by the whole cat prescription

I won’t be reading book 2 though

With the help of the audiobook I’ll be able to finish this book. It’s not bad, but I don’t feel anything for the characters, they feel quite sad. It feels like we are told that Ash is feeling X but we’re not shown how that affects him. But a huge plus for a genderfluid character, that’s great to see in a fantasy book. Proves that the author has power over such things ;)

Ok chapter 1 didn’t peak a lot of interest but let’s still get to 20%, shall we?
