This is like Hunger Games meets An Ember in the Ashes meets Percy Jackson.

Author: you should set aside time for important things and set goals to stay on track!
Me: *sets aside time to grade essays after school
Me: *sets goal to grade 10 essays in an hour
Me: *goes home and takes nap after school
Essays: *aren't graded

A slow start, but maybe picking up now?

My favorite part is the story about the author's younger brother whose goal was to be 6 feet tall by his senior year of high school...good for him for achieving that, but some of our parents aren't over 5'9... 🙃

At this point, the book is feeling less "dystopian" and more "current events." I can't binge it because it needs to be read carefully and thoughtfully.

The youth are writing children's books centered around being proactive. Not sure how this will go.

Habit 1 is about being proactive (taking control of things). The author says to speak up to end abuse you're experiencing. He makes the point that it's never the victim's fault but doesn't emphasize how difficult speaking up actually is. He's trying to encourage people to rise above their circumstances, but I'm not sure that losing the starting QB position in college qualifies you to give advice to abuse victims.

The author brushed off systemic racism and is starting to annoy me with his virtue signalling...we're not even halfway through habit 1 yet...

Every time I read the word habit I think of nuns

Don't mind me reaching a Self-discovery course and discovering right alongside the youth.

I'm listening to Ballarat National Theater's adaptation on Spotify. It's great voice acting, but they release episode by episode and the last two chapters of the book aren't out yet. I'm going to have to go back and actually read this, I think--I'm missing a lot of the nuances that come with seeing the words, annotating the text, etc.

The train wreck I can't look away from. At least Belly KNOWS she's immature. Points for self-awareness.

Needed a break from learning about black tar heroin

Was supposed to read this for a college history class and never finished it (pretty sure that was the semester I had to read 17 books). It ties into House of the Scorpion well.

The plot is THICKENING and I'm finally invested

This book is horrible and I can't stop reading it.

Needed something low stakes and youth-approved.

There are lots of Englishy people on my feed, and I hope you all have continued to pleasure read even though you bear the (rather heavy) responsibility of teaching the youth.
