This is getting tiresome. They keep repeating the same lines about being so screwed because they’re attracted to each other and then doing nothing. They’re both annoying me.

I’m re-reading, which I rarely do, but I was just going to re-a quaint myself with the series and got caught up in it. Now I can’t stop. This is my favorite rockstar romance series - I think. The Mayhem series by Jamie Shaw and the Stage Dive series by Kylie Scott are close runners up, though.

Don’t judge me! The cover and the title look like every other historical romance that I would have openly mocked not too long ago. But…people with whom I share many favorite books seem to love Lorraine Heath, so here I go. Mock away.

I hate how trashy the cover art is , and yeah there’s an erotica component- what’s wrong with a little erotica between friend?

This cover art, and it’s ilk, objectifies men just as similayb

WORST COVER EVER! Sarina, what were you thinking with this? This guy looks like a Chippendale dancer circa 1987. Please.

Common debut annoyance: too much unnecessary description. Maybe the first couple if times various settings were nice to picture. But Every coffee shop, Every bar, Every room ....it’s too choppy. Seems amateurish - her editor should have caught that.

Ok I LOVE Staci Hart’s leading men more than perhaps anyone’s. I have a theory that it’s because they are genuinely too good to be true. They are multi-layered, sensitive, beautiful alphas with seemingly unending patience. But I’m struggling with disbelief that our leading lady is STILL denying this guy. I like a slow burn and I love all of the character-building, but PLEASE! Why?

Been waiting for this book for a while and so far it has eased my memory back to the tons of ongoing stories and characters in Green Valley. I kinda wish there were a series of family trees linking plot lines to refresh my knowledge bank. Guess I’ll make one. It’s good to be back!

Don’t judge. The cover does not do justice to Kristen Callihan’s writing. I’m so sick of the design teams at various publishers assuming every romance novel feeding readers’ unfulfilled fantasies. This is a thoughtful depiction of chronic depression/anxiety. It’s also about our lacking safety net for abandoned children, the meaninglessness of materialism...and, of course, a love story.

Wow, aside from all of the obvious expertise these authors bring to the table, they managed to create the most hateful villain in Franklin Fairchild! I audibly gasped at his blatantly sexism and ridiculous power dynamic. He’s Trump. No bones about it.

While this is certainly turning into a sweet love story, I’m beginning to suspect it’s perhaps a tale more so about the tiniest steps away from obsessive self-centeredness and toward others can snowball into a path out of depression and loneliness.

So far I’m not as drawn to the characters as I was with Well Met. The writing seems a bit too hung up on the detailed minutia of daily life. Almost the way a student writes when trying to increase their word count.

I’m from NE Mpls. I was going to read this book regardless because I loved “The Girl I Used to Know.” I downloaded the book sight unseen and when I realized that this one was based in my neighborhood I was both excited and wary. Often books set in MN are full of “you betcha,” ice fishing, hot dish and lutefisk.

But so far, this is a realistic reflection of my beloved city and neighborhood. Well done!

So it looks like this follow-up to Mayhem is immediately tackling the main issue I had with it - the saint/whore female characterizations.

Within the first couple of chapters it is clear that Jamie Shaw decided to tackle the issue of consent, and objectification (“The Accused”-style) by focusing on the Deeandra character. So far, this is working for me...

It’s good. Well-written. Important. I DNF because it hit just a little too close to home, that’s all. I would recommend it.

I finished the trilogy in three days, even though I was certain I was going to have a stroke several times and forced myself to take breaks. I even slept a little, ate a little, and bathed. I don’t think I have ever been as consumed by a work of fiction as I was by this. MAYBE the Shatter Me series, MAYBE Harry Potter 3-7. Maybe.

Love this series more with each book. It’s more than a fun, quirky, romantic escape. It has made me think deeply about stuff I needed to see from a different perspective. This one is going in the Favorites group. ❤️❤️❤️

How could it have taken me so long to read this book? It is perfect. It is complex. It is beautiful. It feels to me like a Silvera book for my generation. A Gen X Silvera. What could be better?
