Besides the name and their presence in a seedy environment, Dorian was known to create inexplicable compliance in his companions like with MacFarlane. The narrator of this story might not have seen or known Mr Gray in this story as exceptionally beautiful like Dorian has been described because the narrator is recounting the story from the POV of a straight man.
