[re-re-read] ramble but more and more do I see the world Hagedorn paints here as a marvel. I do think more and more that Dogeaters might be contender for the great Philippine novel. I do understand the flippancy in that statement, but in this novel I find playfulness in language and an outlook only our polluted air encourage: morality melted, saints filth actors divine.

Of course Dogeater anagrams derogate.

“Katutubong Kaakuhan” is so fucking juicy and blunt in its criticism of Virgilio Almario’s nativist philosophy I want to blast it in the greenhills cinema like a Pacquiao—- like damn they went for where it hurts !

In a lecture on poetry, Kenneth Koch strongly advocates that your Voice “can never be shaken off no matter the influence.”

Chapter 8 of this book depicts a macro-scaled case study of this hypothesis. In the adoption of English, and the integration of craft honed by Americans, writers such as Arguilla and Villa Garcia still make the Filipino sing through. Detriment or not, your identity will penetrate all words.

Thought May Day Eve was the best Nick Joaquin then he just hits you with Guardia De Honor and you can never recover. Literal mindfuck what he did in that.
