this is a bit of a badly-timed read for me, more suited for vacation/a lot of uninterrupted alone time. but i like it and will keep working at it, eventually!

ddr-museum jumpscare!

short story anthologies are an unbeatable format for my brain, i love, love, love all of the stories. talk about an author knowing her own capabilities and executing the format wonderfully, wow.

i will probably read this within the next month BUT if the rest of this book is written even remotely as badly as the first 10 pages of this are written…. i won’t make it. i want hank green to be a good writer, but maybe i am expecting too much.

undeniably charming even if i am once again going to accuse an adult of overwriting teenage personality.

eigentlich scheue ich mich vor historischen romanen, aber dieser hier ist bis jetzt ziemlich geil

i like so much of this but really dislike the gender dynamics of the characters here, especially the men. not sure if i will finish this, paused for now.

parts of this are ok to good, and then there’s the chapters written from the pov of 13 year olds that are a) written badly and b) are so ridiculously transphobic while trying to not be? you can’t mention the kid understanding what deadnaming is and then CONTINUE TO DEADNAME THE TRANS CHILD ? the prose is too uninspiring to be this cliche

i am enjoying this GREATLY, both as an agnostic distanced diaspora jew and a neurotic historian.

cute and very vivacious, a (i assume) very overdue portrait of young deaf americans lives that shines most in the „mundane“ moments of character‘s every day lives. unfortunately the strange central ohio anarchism subplot feels so random and disconnected that i have to take a break, i really don’t know why it was included. a light, meaningful read so far!

i really like this so far
