It’s losing me hard, but I’ve read too much to give up now.

Not sure if Jane is strong or emotionless.

The writing is a bit repetitive with the overly emotional one-liners and I’m getting tired of it. Also, the plot is moving egregiously slow. I guess this is all a testament to the flawed Goodreads system, and how a books that averages a 5 star review won’t always live up to the hype. Maybe—hopefully—my opinion will be changed.

Captivating

As resistant as I was to picking up a historical fiction bestseller, I’m glad that I did. Yes, it’s unbearably cheesy at times, and in those times I understand why hundreds of thousands of people read it and not just tens of thousands — it’s an easy read. Digestible. Delectable.

Not my typical book of choice, but I’m not mad about it. There have been brief moments of laughter, specifically during the first short story detailing the internal operations of Macy’s Santaland from the perspective of a working elf.

The rest I’ve been skimming more or less, with significantly less laughter between pages.

Uncommunicated truths. Assumptions of others feelings. Not wanting to be a burden. Wanting to be loved. Needing to feel belonging in a cruel world.
