"It amazes me that that doesn’t get Ai up and about toot sweet." ......were they trying to say "tout (de) suite"????? Because I hope they weren't talking about a sugary fart, which is what I imagine "toot sweet" would be. God, who were the proofreaders for this thing????

I feel like I'm starting to lose patience with this book. I'm eager to see where this talk of Earthseed really goes, or if it's just trying to deify and spiritualize a good, but definitely secular idea to make it sound more profound, and more palatable to religious people.

Switching to an ebook from my physical copy because the Hungarian translation is awful beyond all critique. It's artless, unfaithful, RIDDLED with grammatical errors, and it even uses modern slang in a 2021 translation of a 1993 book.

The publisher and the translator himself ought both be ashamed to have embarrassed this uncontested genre classic like this. Absolutely fucking shameful.

I'm guessing I'm updating this more frequently because it's such slow going. My god, this book is verbose.

Y'know, some writers in the past were paid by the sentence, or the word, which influenced their style to be more effusive, more verbose, mainly to pump up that count, and with it, their salary.

I've an idea forming that Ms. O'Farrell was perhaps being paid by the adjective, or even the simile. Because why does everything feel, taste, look, and smell like four other, different things?

I'm only 10% in (just finished chapter 1), but I'm already not sure if I like this book enough to finish it. There's just something about this opaque, lyrical style of prose that's really not my taste...
